WHO: TOTAL
WHAT: With the commissioning of FPSO Pazflor, TOTAL was looking for subcontractors to manage the installation and operation of all the communication and access control systems .

FPSO : Floating Production, Storage and Offloading unit, is a floating unit used for the production of offshore oil, that :
1-receives the oil and/or gas extracted by oil platforms ,
2- stocks and treats the production before retrieval by oil tankers.

Challenge

Launched in December 2007, Pazflor was then the biggest ongoing project operated by Total. This platform is a major development for Angola and is meant to supply 220.000 barils per day once up and running.

The FPSO, having been built in Korea and designed to work on the coasts of Angola, had three main stages :

  • Korea: first level of installation of telecoms and access control systems

  • Transportation from Korea to Angola : finalization of the installation of communication systems

  • Angola : making sure that the FPSO and its equipment are service-ready

Considering the complexity of the equipment to be installed, this mission required both technical skills and the ability to manage multicultural teams

Solution

Employing staff who have worked across the continents on a wide variety of telecoms systems, DUONS was able to provide TOTAL with teams covering all of the requirements.

Outcome

After an initial 5-month period in Korea, followed by 3 months of transport, the FPSO started producing petrol on the 24th of August at 4 O'Clock in the morning. Duons is proud to have associated to this project asTelecom Systems Provider and Operator.
